Big Band
The Halewynstichting summer jazz course will be expanded to include a ‘Big Band’ component, expertly taught and led by Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Interested participants can choose between two ‘Big Band Options’ when they register.

Teaching Staff:

Staff are all members of Brussels Jazz Orchestra.

Option 1 ‘Big Band’ Full Option:
This option includes the full 7-day course, including a big-band program during the afternoon.
The first day will begin at 11:00 with a welcome and orientation.
08.30 – 09.00: breakfast
09.00 – 10.30: instrumental/vocal instruction (from day 2)
10.30 – 11.00: break
11.00 – 12.30: instrumental/vocal instruction (from day 2)
12.30 – 13:00: lunch
13.00 – 14:00: break
14:00 – 15.30: sectional rehearsals (woodwinds/brass/rhythm section)
15.30 – 16.00: break
16.00 – 18.00: big band rehearsal (on the first day: instrumental/vocal instruction)
18.00 – 19.00: dinner and break
19.00 – 20.00: 2nd big band rehearsal or beginning theory
20.00 – 21.00: 2nd big band rehearsal or advanced theory
21.00 – 22.00: extra workshops (4 evenings)
19.00 – 24.00: jam session

Tarifs option 1

Option 2 Big Band Solo:
This option does not involve room and board, and only includes participation in the sessions after 2:00 p.m.
14:00 – 15.30: sectional rehearsals (woodwinds/brass/rhythm section)
15.30 – 16.00: break
16.00 – 18.00: big band rehearsal (first day: instrumental/vocal instruction)
18.00 – 19.00: dinner and break
19.00 – 21.00: 2nd big band rehearsal

Tarifs option 2

Rehearsals:
During the sectional rehearsals, you’ll work on your section’s repertoire – only woodwinds, brass, or percussion – in small groups, inspiringly led by members of Brussels Jazz Orchestra.

During the big band rehearsals, everyone will work together on the repertoire already rehearsed in the sectionals. Frank Vaganée, artistic director of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, will lead these tutti rehearsals.

Workshops & jam sessions:
You can choose from a variety of evening activities including workshops, an extra big-band rehearsal, or jam sessions.

Concerts:
At the end of the course, the big band will perform on Saturday 27 July, with other combos at Zaal De Put, Destelheide.

Destelheide is located in Dworp in the province of Vlaams Brabant, 20 km from Brussels and 10 km from Halle. It is a modern building of glass, concrete, and wood in the countryside of Brussels.
